He sees the film as Gladiator set in a dystopian high school. Basicc uses his intro to explain the propaganda in the film and also show how the story and character development are as weak and unoriginal as in the first one. This is one of Basicc’s longest works, running almost 3 hours as it contains the full feature movie as well as a 20-minute intro with montages from The Hunger Games films. And after several other commentaries later, Basicc returns to analyze the follow up Hunger Games installment, Catching Fire. This time, he is not playing the director, just a pissed-off spectator. Basicc’s first full length commentary ever was done on The Hunger Games first installment, which had the working title, A Sociological Criticism of The Hunger Games Disguised As A Director’s Commentary.
